The battery life is also good, with up to 30 hours of listening with ANC active, and 40 hours when it's off. This is more than enough for a weekend trip or several days of heavy usage.

The only drawback is that the XM5s don't have any water resistance or dust resistance protection. In fact, Sony recommends that you don't sweat into them or wear them out in the rain. This might not be a major issue for the majority of people however, for those who spend a lot of time in the gym or live in a rainy region it could be a major problem.

Apple AirPods Max

The Apple AirPods Max are a pair of over-ear wireless headphones with Bluetooth technology and noise cancelling. Apple created dynamic drivers that measure 40mm with a neutral audio profile that emphasizes highs and mids without going too loud. They are ideal for movies and music. They also provide higher fidelity compared to other headphones.

The headphones go into standby mode when removed from your ears or when they are put in their case. They only come back to life when you put them on your head.

Another great feature is spatial audio, which utilizes the gyroscopes and accelerometers in the AirPods Max and your iPhone or iPad to figure out where you're moving, then repositions the sound to create the illusion that they're coming from these locations. This creates a cinema-like experience with videos and movies made in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 or 7.1. The only drawback is that spatial audio requires an iOS device for use and you won't be able to enjoy it with other devices.

The AirPods Max are a decent pair of headphones, but I'd feel slightly smug about going into an Apple Store and spending $549 on them if I knew they'd be outdone next year by the new model. AirPods Pro are more expensive, but they have more battery life and are equipped with the latest features.
